Admission of December class of soldiers
At Sombor, Valjevo and Leskovac training centres of the Serbian Armed Forces, today, December generation of soldiers started their voluntary military service with arms.
This morning, the candidates began to arrive to the barracks. This is the first generation of soldiers for which the voluntary military service will last six months and will include quarterly individual and specialized training, and then the collective training and active participation in the life and work of the units of the Serbian Armed Forces until the end of military service.
- From this generation, soldiers will serve their military service for a period of six months, with the modifications which were adopted. The basic plan is that the soldiers spend the first month and a half in the centres for basic training, such as Valjevo Second Training Centre, then they will spend the same amount of time in the centres for specialized training, and after that, for the remaining three months, they are referred to the units of the Serbian Armed Forces as necessary, based on the assessment of General Staff – Lieutenant Colonel Zoran Cvetković, Deputy commander of the Second Training Centre emphasizes.
Admission of candidates begins at the reception desk, from where they go on the first of several points separating them until borrowing military uniforms, including assignments to the unit, medical examination, an interview with psychologist and military police, haircuts, bathing, borrowing equipment and accommodation at the premises of the barracks.
Among the December class soldiers who are going to put on military uniforms today, a brother and a sister, Ivan (19) and Nevena (23) Grujic, from the village of Lozanj near Gornji Milanovac, came to the reception desk of Valjevo barracks "Vojvoda Zivojin Misic".
- I wish to serve my country, and I like that kind of life – Ivan says, adding that he did not hesitate even at the fact that the military service was extended to six months.
- I always liked the idea of serving the military service, and as soon as I got the chance, I decided to try it – Nevena emphasizes, responding with a smile to the question of whether her soldier days will pass easier in her brother's company: "as it is for him, so it will be for me".
Brother and sister Grujic say with a smile that they did not plan to spend their military days together, but that fate decided otherwise. As they point out, although at first it was difficult for the parents that both are leaving home at the same time, they are very proud of them.
- Frankly, it means a lot to us. And according to the old folk custom, they also prepared joint send-off party – Ivan and Nevena added, and their decision to voluntarily serve the Army was enthusiastically accepted also by their friends, who were the most cheerful at the send-off party.
