75th anniversary of the Battle of Kadinjaca marked
Serving the requiem service and laying wreaths on Kadinjaca marked the 75th anniversary of the battle in which the whole Workers' battalion perished defending the Užice Republic, on 29th November 1941.
Priests of Užice churches served the requiem service for the fallen soldiers and delegations of the Serbian Government, the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, SUBNOR, the city of Užice and descendants, paid tribute to heroes Kadinjaca by laying wreaths.
On behalf of the Government of Serbia, on the central state ceremony, at the memorial complex Kadinjača, Dragan Popovic, State Secretary at the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs spoke pointing out that Serbia is proud of its anti-fascist past.
"Heroes of Kadinjača knowingly gave their lives fighting against fascism and showed that a big power is vulnerable, if you love your homeland and believe in justice and freedom. It is on us to confront this great evil, which was not defeated in 1945, today as well, always and everywhere where we recognize it; and fascism today is when someone breaks the tables with Cyrillic script, expelling people from their homes ... ", Popović said.
Užice Mayor, Tihomir Petkovic, reminded of the suffering of the Workers' battalion in the defence of the Uzice Republic and underlined that Užice proudly remembers heroes of Kadinjaca.
"We are proud of 67 days of the Užice Republic, which was a great support to the strengthening of the anti-fascist front in Europe. It has its place in the European history and is a symbol of freedom and pride and a strong anti-fascist resistance. We are proud of the fighters of the Workers’ Battalion, who sacrificed their lives on Kadinjaca and deserve our utmost respect", Petković said.
Central ceremony marking the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Kadinjaca was organized by the Committee for preserving tradition of liberation wars of the Government of Serbia, in cooperation with the city of Užice and Užice National Museum.
