Minister Djordjevic meets Minister of Defence of Italy
During the SEDM Conference, which was held today in Rome, Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic met with the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Italy, Roberta Pinotti.
Minister Djordjevic pointed out that Serbia appreciated Italy's support for the European path of the Republic of Serbia and reiterated the importance of establishing a strategic partnership between the two countries. He conveyed gratitude to the members of Italian KFOR contingent on the professional commitment and contribution to security in Kosovo and Metohija.
Ministers Djordjevic and Pinotti expressed their readiness to cope with the numerous security challenges in the region and beyond in the future joint efforts and engagement. They exchanged views on the security situation in the Western Balkans and the Mediterranean and the fight against terrorism. Special attention was paid to the consideration of questions of the current migrant crisis that requires a comprehensive approach to all international actors in finding the optimal solution.
Both sides agreed that intensive cooperation in the defence field follows the overall bilateral relations, and that there is room for its further improvement. The crown of cooperation is the current joint participation in multinational operations, particularly joint involvement in the UN mission in Lebanon.
Minister Pinotti expressed her satisfaction with the fact that the defence cooperation developed considerably, especially military-to-military, military education and military medical one, but also that there is room for its wider qualitative and quantitative improvement.
In this regard, emphasis was placed on the possibility of joint training and exercises, as well as the exchange of the members of the two armies at various levels of education and training, on a reciprocal basis.
