Presentation of monograph on the Military Geography Institute

Представљена монографија о Војногеографском институтуOn the occasion of 140 years of the Military Geography Institute, a monograph addressing the development of this important military institution since its establishment until today was presented in the Central Military Club. On more than 220 pages, richly illustrated with photographs, the book presents "the first" 140 years of the MGI, an institution dealing with research and development and production in the fields of geodesy, photogrammetry, cartography, geographic information systems, map reproduction, metrology and other geo-disciplines.

Presenting a kind of biography of the MGI, Mirjana Sandic, editor of the publication, pointed out that the authors provided a unique view of the institution from its founding to the present.

- As early as during the First World War, this institution, greatly contributed with its topographic maps both to the Serbian Army and the allies. The work on surveys and making topographic maps was not interrupted either during the retreat through Albania or in Corfu, or during the breakthrough of the Salonika front. The great wealth of the Military Geographical Institute is reflected in its Archives of maps and other products. Precious is also this monograph which, in a few specific wholes, summarizes 140 years of the MGI, from the first printed to today's digital geodetic maps, Mirjana Sandic said.

The monograph was then spoken about by its authors, Lieutenant Colonel Radoje Bankovic, PhD, who stressed the importance of continuous education and professional development of geodetic personnel in the development of geodetic institutes, Lieutenant Colonel Slavisa Tatomirovic, who spoke about the cooperation of the MGI with the related civilian and military institutions in the country and abroad and Dejan Djordjevic who stressed the importance of aerophotogrametric surveys of the national territory.

The audience was addressed by Acting Chief of the Military Geography Institute, Colonel Zoran Srdic, who spoke about the future of the Institute and the tasks that await it, stating that the members of the MGI, with their work and efforts, achieving the expected results and further education and development, will justify the trust of their predecessors and provide further progress and development of the institution and the activities to its successors.
