Scientific conference "Serbia and the strategic crossroads" opens
In the Guards Club, in Topcider, today, scientific conference entitled "Serbia and the strategic crossroads", organized by the National Defence School and the Strategic Research Institute has commenced with the aim to review and assess the long-term strategic trends and developments at global, regional and national levels.
The expert gathering was attended by Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic and Serbian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff, General Ljubisa Dikovic, representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, state institutions and the academic community of our country.
Opening the scientific conference, Minister Djordjevic said that this gathering is a great opportunity for the scientific and technical public to present the results of research and their views on a number of important issues and challenges that the modern world faces today, which have a significant impact on the Republic of Serbia, putting it on serious temptations.
- Search for adequate and effective response to the increasingly complex challenges of the modern world, commitment to peace, cooperation and joint action focused on protecting the universal values and the global interest based on them, is the foundation for responsible operation of modern states – the minister of defence pointed out, adding that our country is permanently committed to improving the values of democracy, economic and social stability and security, as well as that it offers a significant contribution to the improvement of regional and global security.
Speaking about the importance of today's scientific conference, he noted that he needs to offer answers to important questions of strategic and geopolitical reality of the Republic of Serbia, and the scientifically informed conclusions from this conference will certainly contribute to a more reliable decision-making process in the defence system.
According to the Director of the Strategic Research Institute, Jovanka Saranovic, PhD, the meeting was an opportunity for competent professionals in these fields of expertise to express their views on the numerous and complex challenges the world faces in the early 21st century, which, by their contradictory dynamics, exert a significant influence on Serbia jeopardising the possibility of full protection and further affirmation of its national values and interests.
As pointed out by the Head of the National Defence School, Colonel Miroslav Talijan, the scientific conference is divided into five thematic sections, and all the papers are published in the ISIKS -2016 Proceedings, which provide a clear and comprehensive review of security risks and threats and other current security problems as well as their reflection and impact on national security.
