Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic has visited today, with his associates and Director of Yugoimport SDPR, Jugoslav Petkovic, small arms ammunition factory in Uzici, which is under construction.
After visiting the construction site at the place of the future plant for the production of ammunition, Minister Djordjevic pointed out that, in accordance with the commitment of the Government of Serbia to economically develop Serbia, the Ministry of Defence and Yugoimport SDPR are working on a serious project to build an ammunition factory in Uzici.
- The value of the investment is 89 million, and the factory will occupy more than 11 thousand square meters and will employ 700 people. I think it would be a big step forward when it comes to the defence industry, which will contribute to the economic development of Serbia – Minister Djordjevic said, adding that the project is currently in its first phase of development, and based on the projected pace, it is expected that the first bullet in the factory will be produced next year.
Jugoslav Petkovic, Director of Yugoimport SDPR, recalled that this is the first factory to be built after the Second World War to produce small arms ammunition, in a complex that consists of 21 buildings.
- A special feature is that 9mm, 7.62 mm, 5.56 mm and 12.7 mm small arms ammunition will be produced in one place. If we compare it with factories in the region, with a capacity of about seven million pieces, our factory will produce about 10 million bullets – Petkovic explained, adding that, by the end of the year, the second of the three planned stages of construction will come to an end.
Small arms ammunition factory in Uzici is part of the defence industry development project under the working title - Defence technology industrial base of Serbia (OTIBS) – Vision2020.
