Ceremony on the occasion of 100 years of telecommunications in the Serbian Armed Forces
The ceremony held in the Guards Club in Topcider marked 20th September the Telecommunications Service Day and hundred years of telecommunications service in the Serbian Armed Forces. The ceremony was attended by Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic and Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Jovica Draganic, with members of the collegium, commanders, chiefs and directors of units and establishments of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, members of the communications unit, the previous heads of communications departments and sectors, retired members of communications branch and telecommunications services, representatives of government authorities, institutions and companies with which the Department for Telecommunications and Information Technologies has successfully cooperated for decades.
Congratulating the members of the telecommunications service on the Day of the Service and a century of its successful existence, and to the members of the signal units, 10 years since the establishment of the Signal Brigade, Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic said, among other things, that the continued efforts of the signalmen to create, the conditions for each order of the command to come on time to the soldiers, as early as at the time of the Balkan wars, is worthy of admiration.
- During the Great War and the Second World War, during the NATO aggression against our country, you were always ready to perform the tasks for which you had been educated and trained. You have shown all your courage, ability, and determination to defend what is most sacred to our soldier, and that is the freedom of our country and its citizens. In this struggle, many members of the branch have given their lives. Today you represent a compact and fully functional part of the defence system. The results achieved so far, leave us assured that the telecommunications service has personnel capable of high-quality execution of all the set tasks that will enable successful command and control in the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, Minister Djordjevic said, highlighting the level of cooperation achieved in the field of telecommunications with other government authorities and enterprises.
The numerous guests were addressed by the Head of the Department for Telecommunications and Information Technology of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, Brigadier General Predrag Simovic, who briefly reflecting on the creation and development of telecommunications in the Serbian Army, recalled the most important periods and constants in its hundred-year-long existence.
- Today the telecommunications service is capable of realising high quality communications for command and control purposes. We carry out mission and tasks continuously, efficiently and in a timely manner, which is a credit to the entire personnel of the service and the communications unit. We will carry out our responsibilities and tasks in all the three missions with the constant endeavour to meet the needs and requirements of our Armed Forces and continuous memory of our predecessors and colleagues who sacrificed their lives in performing responsible and complex tasks, Simovic said.
In gratitude for the many years of successful and quality cooperation and unselfish contribution in the field of telecommunications, telecommunications service in the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, on the occasion of the Day of the Service and 100 years of the successful development, awarded the deserving public and private-owned enterprises plaques of the Serbian Armed Forces and letters of gratitude of the Ministry of Defence.
With the participation of the Stanislav Binicki Artistic Ensemble, the ceremony ended with the stage-musical programme "The connection is like the air".
